Have you heard about sublingual immunotherapy (“SLIT”)? It’s this great new treatment for allergies. No shots, just a tablet. You get just a tiny dose of what you’re allergic to and put it under your tongue to let it get absorbed into your body. The American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology says it’s effective and safe. Costs lots of money and you have to visit a specialist to get it.
But it’s NOT NEW. Homeopaths have been using this type of therapy for years and years. It’s one of the basic principles of homeopathy: Like cures like. This type of homeopathic preparation is called an “allersode.” Substances that people are allergic to, such as ragweed, dust mites, cat dander, just about anything you can think of, are diluted and used to stimulate the immune system to recognize and expel the substance from the body. Combination homeopathics may contain allersodes along with other homeopathics that support the adrenal gland, liver, and other elimination organs.
You can get these kinds of homeopathics in a variety of combinations; for example, you can get a Northwest tree mix that contains all the kinds of trees that are blooming during allergy season in the Northwest. They are also available for different types of foods, pets, just about anything you can think of!
Allersodes are just one way to help the body with allergies. Other types of homeopathics, such as the homeopathic phenolic Histamine, can help relieve allergy symptoms. Or, as mentioned above, homeopathics that support adrenal, liver, or even nasal mucosa functions can help.
